The Four Main Types of Private Number Plates

1. The classic Dateless style number plate which can have from as little as 1 number and 1 letter up to a maximum of 6 characters.
2. The Suffix year letter plates (1963 – 1983) E.g. JOE 333Y
3. The Prefix year letter plates (1983 – 2001) E.g. F17 MJS
4. The Current Style plates (2001 to date). The prefix and current style private number plates are often the cheapest available.
