POLICE sniffer dogs have carried out a search of the DVLA building in Morriston following concerns about drugs on the site.
Officers swooped yesterday morning in an operation planned with agency managers and security staff.
A quantity of cannabis was recovered, and one worker cautioned.
Acting chief inspector Nigel Whitehouse said the operation should send a message about drugs in the workplace.
“This operation was planned after meetings with management and security at the DVLA site in Morriston,” he said.
“Staff on site fully co-operated with the police during the operation. One male was found to be in possession of cannabis. He received a formal police caution.
“It sends out a strong message that drugs within the workplace will not be tolerated.”
He added: “No disruption was caused to the day-to-day working of the DVLA.”
More than a dozen police officers took part in the morning search, which lasted for around two hours.
It is not yet known whether any specific drugs-related incidents or tip-offs led to the swoop, or how long the operation had been planned for. More than 5,000 people work at the DVLA.
A DVLA spokeswoman said the agency operated a strict policy in relation to illegal drugs.
She said: “Police attended the Morriston site and a small amount of an illegal drug was recovered. We provided our full co-operation to the police.”
