It seems that no matter what security measures the government plan to put the average Brit in their place, there is always going to someone who breaks the law and gets into a government job, this time it is at the DVLA.

For most Brits just getting by is enough, but for illegal immigrant Samy Ludiha, aged 54 and who cannot speak a word of English, getting a job in the DVLA was easy enough, it only took a false passport and he was in.

Senior probation officer David Maynard said: “He knows what he has done is wrong, but everything I know about him suggests he is a decent and honourable man.”

Granted he was only working as a cleaner, but does that matter, someone with illegal intentions could have had been routing around the DVLA offices for months. The fact is still that he is an illegal immigrant who in effect could have been anyone.

Judge John Diehl QC told Ludiha: “It is a serious matter to involve yourself with false passports, but you are not a person who did that for some graver reason.”

“One can well understand why it is said that somebody in your situation is, in effect, in limbo.”

He added: “I do hope, for your sake, there is some way of resolving this great problem.”

The 54 year old was given a thirty five week prison term, which was suspended for eighteen months and ordered to do a hundred and fifty hours of community service.

Ludiha said, in French: “I swear I will never commit another offence in my life as long as I live in the UK.”
