Number plates of two vehicles belonging to Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) President Raj Thackeray were stolen from outside his residence here, police said today.
A theft case was registered at Shivaji Park police station on a complaint by Thackeray’s driver Ashok Tandal on Tuesday. According to police, the number plates were of a Qualis and a Camry car parked on a lane outside Thackeray’s residence in Dadar, central Mumbai. The MNS leader has been provided `Y’ category security.
When the police went to the spot, they learnt that number plates of eight more vehicles belonging to residents in the posh Shivaji Park area had been stolen. A police officer said stolen number plates are generally used by thieves in other crimes. “Thieves put these number plates to their vehicles before executing a crime to evade arrest,” the officer said.
