Information & DVLA documents for transferring registrations.  All of the following are official documents & forms from DVLA (Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency).

1. V5C Registration Document

V5C Sample

Commonly called the logbook.  This document contains all of the information about the vehicle including the make, model, colour, engine size & chassis number.  This is a compulsary document and proves rightful ownership of a vehicle. (very important when buying or selling a vehicle!) If you have not got a V5C document (logbook) if the original has been lost, stolen or destroyed you may apply for one using the V62 form which you can download below or get from your local post office.

2. V317  – Application to transfer a vehicle registration number

DVLA form used to transfer a registration from one vehicle to another vehicle. (Fee payable is £80.00)

3. V317  – Application to retain a vehicle registration number

Application form to retain a registration number. Used to take a registration off the vehicle it is currently registered to.  Fee payable £105 (one year),  £130 (two years),  £155 (Three years).

4. V750

Certificate of Entitlement. Legal document for the purchaser of a registration number before it is assigned to a vehicle.  These documents are issued by DVLA Swansea for previously un-issued government stock. Any mark on V750 has not previously been allocated to a vehicle.

5. V778

Retention Document.  The DVLA issue a V778 retention certifcate to the owner to ‘Hold’ a registration that is not actually on a vehicle. This form is then used to put the number on a new car at a later date.

The Grantee (Keeper of vehicle the registration was last assigned to) has the rights to the registration.  A holding certificate for a registration not currently assigned to a vehicle.  Any number on retention has once been on a vehicle in it’s history.

6. V10

Vehicle licence application. Application for taxing a vehicle that has had a period off the road (SORN).

7. V11

Tax Reminder (SORN declaration).  Form issued to motorists to remind them to re-licence their vehicle.

8. V14

Refund Application for vehicle licence disc. (to cash in remaining term of licence disc).
