It seems that the personalised number plate bug is hitting Scotland in a big way as recent research has shown that Scottish drivers are more likely to have a personalised number plate on their vehicles.
The research was produced on a postcode basis and out their top twenty postcodes according to the DVLA database there were eight in Scotland. This is a remarkable amount private number plates just shows that the Scots know a good investment when they see one.
Brian Martin, managing director of elephant.co.uk who produced the report, said: “Some people see them as a status symbol and a way to express individuality.
“We wanted to see who exactly owns them.
“Our research threw up some surprising results. It is not just people with high-powered occupations, living in swanky postcode areas, who own them.
“Occupations at the top of the list include farriers, newsagents and construction machinery operators and many of the postcode areas with the highest percentage are in rural areas, lots of them in Scotland.”
Amazingly, in the small villages of Fintry, Killearn and Strathblane in Stirlingshire over fourteen per cent of vehicle owners have a personalised number plate.
Yet at the other end of the scale, it is Grimsby Docks in the north east of England, which has the least amount of vehicles with a private number plate.
